Colposcopy

Requisition

CLS Colposcopy

Specimen Handling and Transport

A colposcopy procedure may include:

  • PAP Test (LBC)
  • Biopsy(ies)
  • Endocervical Curettage (ECC)
  • Loop Electrical Excision Procedure (LEEP)

For the PAP test, see Liquid-based PAP Collection

The biopsies, LEEP and ECC specimens must be placed in separate formalin containers, 1 SPECIMEN PER CONTAINER. All the specimens must be sent to the laboratory together. Containers must be securely tightened to eliminate any leakage.

Labeling

Label the containers according to CLS requirements. The containers must be labeled with the patient's first and last name and health care number or MRN. The containers must also be labeled with the exact specimen site (e.g. 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock).
