Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA's) - CT/Ultrasound guided for deep-seated lesions.RequisitionCLS Cytopathology Specimen Handling and RequirementsThis procedure may yield a Cytopathology specimen, a tissue specimen or both. The Cytopathology specimen should be expelled into a Cytolyt container and the tissue core specimen must be placed in a small formalin container. Containers must be securely tightened to eliminate any leakage. If a core biopsy has been obtained in addition to the Cytology specimen, both samples must be sent to the Cytopathology laboratory together. An additional specimen collected in RPMI is recommended on all FNA's for Flow Cytometric analysis. Send this specimen together with the Cytopathology specimen(s) to the Cytopathology laboratory. Procedures yielding a tissue specimen only should be sent in formalin to the on-site Anatomical Pathology laboratory with a Surgical Pathology requisition. A Cytopatholgy Requisition is not required. Label the containers according to CLS requirements.
