Requests are screened with Osmolar Gap – When Methanol, Ethylene Glycol, Isopropanol or Acetone is ordered, the following will occur:
1. Osmol Gap (OGAP) will be calculated and reported.
2. If the OGAP is 10 or less, the volatile screen will not be
performed without CLS Medical & Scientific Staff approval.

3. During off-shifts, if the OGAP is greater than 10 mmol/L an
Ethanol will be run. Further action will be determined with
this result.
