Specimen Requirements

If both Aldosterone and Renin are ordered, they must be collected together at the same site (see Renin).

1 x 5 mL gold top SST tube

1.5 mL serum

Minimum Blood Volume for Patients less than 45 kg (100 lb) Including Neonates and Pediatrics

Specimen Handling

PSC: Centrifuge and transport serum on ice to DSC.

RRL & extra-regional: Centrifuge and freeze serum prior to transport to DSC.

Additional Information

RECORD time of collection on the specimen collection tube.
RECORD condition of posture and salt intake on tube if physician has provided this information.
