Aldosterone - Urine

24 hour urine collection.
No preservative required during collection. 
REFRIGERATE during collection.

PSC: 50 mL aliquot
RRL & extra-regional: 10 mL aliquot added to preservative (see Specimen Handling below)

RECORD salt intake (if provided by physician).
RECORD 24 hour volume and collection (start and end) dates and times on requisition.

PSC: Send 50 mL aliquot with no preservative and unfrozen.
RRL & extra-regional: After measuring volume add 10 mL of well mixed urine to a tube containing 0.1 gm boric acid (obtained from RIA at 770-3267.)  Mix well to dissolve the boric acid.  Refrigerate until specimen is transported.

Normal diet	17-69 nmol/24hrs
Low salt	47-122 nmol/24hrs
High salt	0-17 nmol/24hrs
