Specimen Requirements

2 x 5 mL red top tubes, NOT SST.

3.0 mL serum

COLLECT within 60 minutes of next dose.

Minimum Blood Volume for Patients less than 45 kg (100 lb) Including Neonates and Pediatrics 
Specimen Handling

PSC & RRL : Centrifuge and pour off serum into aliquot tube for transport.

Extra-regional : Centrifuge and pour off serum into aliquot tube. FREEZE for transport.

 
Additional Information

RECORD time of last dose on requistion.

A minimum of at least 4 weeks is desirable between dosage changes for checking a level.

Desirable amiodarone levels in patients treated for atrial fibrillation is between 1.1-2.2 µmol/L based on expert opinion.

Toxic Levels: The frequency of adverse effects is related to dosage and duration of therapy.
