1 x 3 mL light green (mint) top PST tube. Gold top SST tube, lavender top EDTA tube and green top sodium heparin tube also acceptable.
0.5 mL plasma or serum
Pediatric: 1.0 mL whole blood
Patients are recommended to fast for 10 hours, however a fasting interval of 9-14 hours is acceptable. |
| Specimen Handling |
PSC and RRL:
Centrifuge, pour off and mark aliquot tube with collection tube type (e.g. "PST"), then transport plasma or serum to DSC.
Extra-regional:
Centrifuge, pour off and mark aliquot tube with collection tube type (e.g. "PST"), then freeze plasma or serum before transporting to DSC.
DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw. |
