Specimen Requirements

1 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tube

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water or crushed ice) prior to and immediately after collection. 

Collections performed at acute care (RRL) sites and all PSCs EXCEPT Cochrane.

Specimen Handling PSC: 
Allow to clot on ice, centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC, pour off, and transport serum on ice to DSC.

RRL & extra-regional: 
Allow to clot on ice, centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC, pour off, freeze serum immediately, then transport to DSC.

DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
Additional Information

Indicate on requisition if pentagastrin stimulation.
