Specimen Requirements

72 hour stool collection

DO NOT perform during Barium Swallow procedure.

Have patient collect stool specimens in pre-weighed container available through Calgary Laboratory Services Patient Service Centres or hospital Accession departments.

Supply patient with collection instruction sheet (#CH3022) and diet information sheet (#CH3012). 

 
Specimen Handling RECORD collection (start & end) dates and times on requisition. 
Additional Information

Any specimen <72 hours collection is NOT acceptable for quantitative analysis.  If a specimen of <72 hours is received please advise the patient to continue the collection for the full 72 hours if possible.

CLS staff: if a specimen collection of <72 hours is received (or unknown start and end dates and times), append a non-chartable comment explaining reason.
