Specimen Requirements

1x 5 mL (4 mL or 3 mL draw) lavender top EDTA tube AND 1 x 5 mL  light green (mint) top PST tube. Gold top SST tube is also acceptable.
Pediatric: 2 lavender top EDTA microtainers and 1 red top microtainer (second EDTA microtainer is used to perform a CBC).

PSC: Collect a second lavender top to perform the CBC at DSC.

For STAT requests on weekends/off hours clinician MUST contact hematopathologist on call to obtain approval for test.

Specimen Handling Extra-Regional:
- Perform CBC and Ferritin on site, Fax Results (403) 270-0596.
- If Ferritin not done on site , send sample
- Send sample for Hemoglobin Electrophoresis
- Send all samples to DSC

Screen Includes: CBC, Ferritin, Hemoglobin Electrophoresis, Hgb A, Hgb A2, Hgb F.
