Human Polyomavirus

Specimen Requirements

Urine: Random urine collection, minimum 10 mL is preferred.  First morning urine is also acceptable. 

Urine is the preferred specimen type, however testing can be performed on:
Blood: 1 x 3 mL lavender top EDTA tube - whole blood
Tissue: Fresh, frozen or formalin-fixed

Specimen Handling

Keep specimen refrigerated.

Submit specimen and completed CLS Anatomic Pathology requisition to the Gross Room, 11th Floor, Foothills Hospital, Attention Molecular Pathology. Specimens may be sent Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Specimens collected outside of regular hours must be kept refrigerated and sent the next working day.
