Specimen Requirements

Acceptable specimen: aspirated purulent material from deep within abscess/wound.
Submit specimen in sterile container, or anaerobic transport media (PRAS).

Specimen Handling

Store specimen at room temperature.
DO NOT refrigerate.

DO NOT submit specimen in syringe, with or without the needle
attached.

 

Additional Information

Indicate Candida/Yeast on requisition if required.

Properly submitted specimens remain viable up to 72 hours.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 4 days.
