Specimen Requirements

Acceptable specimen: peritoneal dialysis fluid or peritoneal lavage fluid.

Collect 5 - 10 mLs into both a FAN aerobic and FAN anaerobic blood culture bottle or 10 mLs into a red top tube or sterile container,

Dialysate bags are NOT acceptable.

Specimen Handling Incubate FAN bottles at 35°C or store at room temperature.
Additional Information Anaerobic culture on request only.
Routine culture will detect most yeast species.
Indicate Candida/Yeast on requisition if required.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 9 days.
