Specimen Requirements

Acceptable specimen: drainage fluid aspirated through drainage tubing.
Only drainages which have been freshly collected by deep needle aspiration of the tube, or the residual sinus tract after tube removal, are acceptable.

DO NOT send tip.

Submit drainage fluid in anaerobic transport media or sterile container.

Specimen Handling

DO NOT send specimen in syringe, with or without needle attached.

Store specimen at 4°C.

 
Additional Information

Indicate Candida/Yeast on requisition if required.
Indicate specific source on requisition.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 4 days.
