| Specimen Requirements |
Acceptable specimens: biopsy, corneal scrapings, enucleation, ulcers, keratitis, intraocular fluid, vitreous/aqueous eye fluid, endophthalmitis, lacrimal gland/canal, anterior chamber fluid, washing fluid.
Collect fluid aspirate and inject through the stopper into anaerobic transport media (PRAS).
Other specimens may be submitted in a sterile container.

| Specimen Handling |
Transport ASAP (priority). Specimen MUST be received in laboratory within 2 hours of collection. Store specimen at room temperature. DO NOT refrigerate.
Specimen may be inoculated to media at the bedside. Media kits are available from CLS Microbiology. Transport inoculated media plates and remaining specimen to Microbiology with a gel pack.
Critical eye specimens must be inoculated to media within 1 hour of collection if STAT requested.
