Specimen Requirements

Acceptable Prosthetic Device specimen: graft, implant, lens, etc.

Acceptable Implanted Medical Device specimen: pacemaker leads (pacer tip), or any part of pacemaker, cement from joint revisions, screws or pins from bone reconstruction, pieces of joint reconstruction material (titanium, surgical steel, or plastic), pieces of skull plate.

Submit specimen in sterile container.

Specimen Handling

Store specimen at room temperature.
DO NOT refrigerate.

Transport ASAP (priority).
Specimen MUST be received in the laboratory within 2 hours of receipt in the RRL.

Additional Information Indicate specific request and source on requisition.
Consult Microbiologist on Call at 770-3757 to confirm other acceptable sources.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 4 days.
