Specimen Requirements

Submit 1-5 mL of fluid in anaerobic transport media (PRAS) or sterile container.

Specimen Handling Transport ASAP (priority) unless requested STAT.
Store specimens at room temperature.
DO NOT refrigerate.
Additional Information

Fluids are best obtained using a needle and syringe.
DO NOT submit specimen in syringe, with or without needle attached.
DO NOT
submit swabs of fluids.

Cultured for anaerobes on request only.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 4 days.
