Specimen Requirements

Acceptable specimen: aspirated purulent material or swab from deep within the wound, tissue, fluid, or device (implant, lens).

Submit specimen in anaerobic transport media (PRAS) or sterile container.

Decontaminate wound surface prior to collection.

Specimen Handling

Store specimen at room temperature.
DO NOT refrigerate.

 
Additional Information Indicate source of specimen on requisition.
Indicate Candida/Yeast on requisition if required.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 4 days.
