Bacterial Culture, aerobic culture only - Aspirate

Acceptable specimen: aspirated material from abscess; swabs submitted in Amies transport media acceptable but not preferred.
Submit specimen in sterile container, or anaerobic transport media.

DO NOT submit specimen in syringe, with or without needle attached.

Store specimen at room temperature.

Indicate Candida/Yeast on requisition if required.

If clinically indicated, specimen source also acceptable for anaerobic culture.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 2 days.
