Acceptable specimens: conjunctival or corneal swab.Submit swab in Amies transport media. Submit swab in Amies charcoal transport media if Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) requested (neonates <3 months only).
Collect eye swab before administration of a topical anesthetic.
Indicate left or right eye on requisition.
Turnaround for negative culture: 2 days.
