Specimen Requirements Submit 1-5 mL fluid in anaerobic transport media (PRAS), sterile container or heparin tube.
Specimen Handling

Transport ASAP (priority) unless requested STAT.
Store specimen at room temperature.
DO NOT refrigerate.

Additional Information

Fluids are best obtained using a needle and syringe.
DO NOT submit specimens in syringe, with or without needle attached.
DO NOT submit swabs of fluids.

Indicate Candida/Yeast on requisition if required.

If clinically indicated, specimen source suitable for
anaerobic culture.

Turnaround time for negative culture: 4 days.
