Specimen Requirements

Note to healthcare providers: test has restricted clinical indications and requires review and approval by CLS Medical & Scientific Staff.

Submit 5 mL aliquot of 24 hour urine specimen with no preservative.

24 hour urine is preferred, random urine specimens are also acceptable.

CLS staff: collect specimen and forward to DSC Referrals who will obtain approval for testing.

 

 
Specimen Handling

RRL & extra-regional: Freeze prior to transport to DSC.

 
Additional Information

Patient should have no histamine-rich foods during the 24 hour collection period, including: alcohol (especially beer & wine), fermented foods (sauerkraut), chocolate, egg whites, strawberries, shellfish, tomatoes and citrus fruits.

Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.
