Specimen Requirements

Use pre-packaged sterile collection tubes OR
1 x 5 mL red top tube, NOT SST

0.2 mL CSF

Pediatric: 0.1 mL CSF may be sufficient to perform one of Albumin, Glucose or Total Protein.

Specimens should be collected before fluorescein is given or at least 24 hours after.

Specimen Handling

If Culture & Sensitivity collected on same tube send specimen to Microbiology first. DO NOT freeze.
