Specimen Requirements

Samples for blood and random urine for Sodium and Creatinine are required. Note: lab must order all four of these tests in PathNet in addition to FNA mnemonic.

1 hour, 2 hour or 3 hour urine collection may be requested by doctor.

24 Hr urines are not acceptable specimens for this test.

Collect blood and urine samples at the same time with no more than 3 hours between blood and urine collections.

Delay collection of specimens until 6 - 8 hours after last dose of diuretic.

Additional Information Fractional Sodium is a calculation which includes serum sodium and creatinine, and urine sodium and creatinine concentrations.
