Specimen Requirements

This is a user pay test not covered by Alberta Health & Wellness. The patient must pay $50.00 at time of collection.
When both Bioavailable and Free Testosterone are ordered together, the patient will pay one fee of $50.00 for both tests.

1 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tube

1 mL serum

Recommend collecting blood between 07:00 and 10:00.

Specimen Handling

Additional Information

Bioavailable Testosterone and Free Testosterone will both be reported.

The concentration of Bioavailable Testosterone is derived from a mathematical expression based on constants for the binding of Testosterone to Sex Hormone Binding Globulin and Albumin.
