These criteria were developed in collaboration with the Regional Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Placentae in these groups should be submitted to Pathology (no fixative) for examination.
CLS Request for Placenta Histopathology
Note: Use the mothers information on the requisition.
Other:
If additional specimens are sent, a CLS Anatomic Pathology Requisition is required.
If Cytogenetic testing is requested: CHR Requisition for Cytogenetic and FISH Services, Form# 101667
Submit the specimen in an appropriate sized plastic container with no fixative (dry). Label the container with the mother's information according to CLS requirements.
DO NOT use yellow or red biohazard waste bags or containers.
Specimens collected after laboratory hours may be held in the fridge (4˚C) until the next working day. Submit through the Histology Laboratory.
