Specimen Requirements Collection should be performed between 06:30 and 10:00 as reference ranges are established for this time of collection.

Collections performed at acute care (RRL) sites and all PSCs.
Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).

1 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA tube

2.0 mL plasma

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water or crushed ice) prior to and immediately after collection.

Minimum Whole Blood Volumes for Micro-Collections using Microtainers

 
Specimen Handling

Spin immediately at 4ºC + 2ºC, using plastic pipette, transfer plasma into plastic tube and freeze tube.

Transport frozen to the DSC.

DSC:
Place in freezer upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.


Record collection time on requisition.
