Misc Ref Test Name Prompt: AATpi Typing
Specimen Requirements 3 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tubes, includes 1 SST for AAT and 2 SST (minimum 2 mL serum total) for Phenotyping.
1 x 4.0 mL lavender top EDTA tube for Phenotyping (minimum 2 mL blood)
Specimen Handling Send a copy of the requisition with specimens.

SST tube for AAT: Centrifuge and transport to DSC; DSC Accession deliver to Chemistry.

2 SST tubes for Phenotyping:
PSC & RRL: Centrifuge and pour off two SST tubes to separate aliquot tubes, then transport serum to DSC.
Extra-regional: Centrifuge and pour off each SST to a separate aliquot tube, and freeze serum before transporting to DSC.
DSC: Freeze serum upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.

EDTA tube: Transport EDTA to DSC on ice (do not freeze); DSC Accession refrigerate EDTA tube.
Additional Information Screen with AAT will be performed prior to referral on all samples except familial studies. If the AAT test results are greater than or equal to 1.15, Phenotyping test will be cancelled. If request is specifically for “familial studies”, contact Chemistry at 403-770-3265 to ensure test is not cancelled, but referred.
