Specimen Requirements

Collections performed at acute care (RRL) sites and all PSCs.
Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).

2 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA tubes
Minimum 3.0 mL plasma

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water) before collecting and immediately after collection.

Specimen Handling Record collection time on requisition.

Separate at 4ºC + 2ºC and freeze two aliquots of plasma immediately (use pre-chilled tubes for aliquotting), then transport to DSC. Send in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

DSC:
Ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
