Specimen Requirements

1 x 4 mL dark green top sodium heparin tube, NOT PST, for each interval

Adult: minimum 3 mL whole blood, 1 mL plasma
Pediatric: minimum 1 mL whole blood

Serum will not be accepted.

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water) immediately after collection.

Specimen Handling

Deliver to lab immediately on ice.
Centrifuge without delay at 4oC + 2oC, transfer plasma to aliquot tube, ensure "Na Heparin" is written on the aliquot tube, and freeze.
Transport frozen to FMC Accession with a copy of the requisition. Transport the specimens for all 5 intervals in the same transport container.

FMC Accession:
Place samples with copies of the requisitions in designated bin marked "Busulfan" in freezer and contact TBCC Pharmacokinetic Lab at 403-521-3442 to arrange for pick-up.
