Specimen Requirements

Collections performed at acute care (RRL) sites and all PSCs.
Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).

1 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tube
2.0 mL serum

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water or crushed ice) prior to and immediately after collection. 

Specimen Handling

PSC:
Allow to clot on ice, centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC, separate into 2 x 1 mL aliquots, and transport on ice to DSC.

RRL and extra-regional: 
Allow to clot on ice, centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC, separate into 2 x 1 mL aliquots, and freeze immediately, then transport to DSC.

DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.

Additional Information Total protein and functional protein levels will be determined.
