Additional Information The average of two assays two weeks apart provides a more stable estimate of the level of this marker.  Levels of CRP greater than 8 mg/L likely indicate active inflammation or the presence of a chronic inflammatory condition, which can invalidate the prediction of coronary risk.  In most cases, a period of two weeks is adequate for CRP concentrations to return to basal values.
Testing Location Chemistry-DSC
Testing Frequency Daily
Alternate Name(s) Cardiac CRP; CRP, High Sensitivity
Reference Interval A reference interval for High Sensitivity CRP is not available.

Statin therapy may be indicated if CRP is greater than 2 mg/L and the following are met:
Framingham risk score: 10-19% (moderate risk)
Males greater than 50 years or females greater than 60 years
LDL Cholesterol is less than 3.5 mmol/L.
hsCRP is not recommended as a routine test for risk stratification outside these patient characteristics (Can J Cardiol 2013; 29; 151-167).
