Specimen Requirements

Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).

All HIV positive collections are done at Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre (SMCHC) or South Calgary Health Centre (SCHC) PSCs (e.g. when ordered with HIV, Viral Load). All non-HIV related requests (including dermatology patients) can be collected at any PSC. 

DO NOT collect specimens after 12:00 Fridays or on weekends or the day prior to statutory holidays. Note: Specimens can only be collected at SCHC between the hours of 07:15 and 09:00 or 11:45 and 13:00, Monday - Thursday, and by appointment only. 

Adult:
1 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA tube, whole blood

Pediatric:
1 x 0.5 mL lavender top EDTA microtainer tube


Tube MUST be completely filled. DO NOT open tube.

Specimen Handling Deliver to FMC Flow Cytometry with next courier. 
Referred in specimens must be shipped at 4°C.

DO NOT centrifuge or freeze samples.

HIV-related specimens from SMCHC or SCHC must be sent by TDG regulations.
All non-HIV related requests (including dermatology patient specimens) do not require TDG regulations.
