Creatinine Clearance

Mnemonic CREACL and U24H
Specimen Requirements Samples for serum or plasma creatinine AND 24 hour urine creatinine are required.
See blood and urine collection requirements.

Supply patient with collection instruction sheet (#CH3025).

PSC:
Collect blood upon return of the 24 hour urine. 

RRL:
Collect blood within 72 hours of urine collection. If there is a previous blood creatinine within 72 hours prior to urine collection, collection of blood creatinine is not required.

Includes serum creatinine, urine creatinine and creatinine clearance calculation.

Note that estimation of glomular filtration rate by creatinine clearance (with 24 h urine collection) is no more accurate than by using the abbreviated MDRD equation (without 24 h urine collection).  See creatinine - Blood.
