Serum separator (gel) vacutainers must be avoided as the drugs may adhere to the gel.

2.0 mL serum

Minimum Whole Blood Volumes for Micro-Collections using Microtainers

Collect </= 1 hour prior to next dose or more than 12 hours after last dose.

Specimen Handling PSC & RRL:
Centrifuge, pour off, and transport serum to DSC. Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

Extra-regional:
Centrifuge, pour off, and freeze serum prior to transport to DSC. Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
Additional Information Record time of last dose on requisition.
