Specimen Requirements

1 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tube

Minimum 12 hour fast required (diabetics – 9 hours). Specimen from patient on heparin therapy is unsuitable for analysis.

Specimen Handling PSC: 
Centrifuge and pour off. Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

RRL & extra-regional: 
Centrifuge, pour off and freeze serum prior to transport to DSC. Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
