Fecal Fat, 72 Hour

72 hour stool collection in pre-weighed container available through Calgary Laboratory Services Patient Service Centres or hospital Accession departments (specimens received in any other container are subject to possible specimen rejection).

DO NOT perform during Barium Swallow procedure.

Supply patient with collection instruction sheet (#CH3022) and diet information sheet (#CH3012).

Record collection (start & end) dates and times on requisition.


Any specimen <72 hours collection is NOT acceptable for quantitative analysis.  If a specimen of <72 hours is received please advise the patient to continue the collection for the full 72 hours if possible. Testing of specimens collected for <72 hours will only be performed with CLS Medical and Scientific staff approval.

CLS staff: if a specimen collection of <72 hours is received (or unknown start and end dates and times), append an order note explaining reason.
 

Note: additional "random" tests will not be performed on 72 hour collections unless there has been approval by CLS Scientific and Medical staff.
