Specimen Requirements

Collections performed at Sloane Square, Sunridge, Beddington, and Glenbrook PSC, and acute care (RRL) sites ONLY.
Cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Services (MCS).


Overnight fast required.

Special collection tube, 2.7 mL draw lavender Glucagon tube, available from CLS Referrals (403-770-3285)

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water or crushed ice) prior to and immediately after collection. 

Specimen Handling PSC:
Centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC, pour off into plastic screwcap Sarstedt2 aliquot tube (available from CLS Referrals), and transport plasma on ice to DSC.

RRL & extra-regional: 
Centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC, pour off into plastic screwcap Sarstedt2 aliquot tube (available from CLS Referrals), and freeze plasma immediately.  Then transport frozen to DSC.

DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
