Specimen Requirements

Venous blood glucose will be drawn by lab.

Within 5 minutes after drawing blood glucose, patient will test their own glucose via skin puncture using their personal glucose meter(s) and will provide lab staff with meter reading. This is to verify the reading on the patient's personal meter.

Specimen Handling  
Additional Information Time of last meal (food intake) should be considered when interpreting results, as meter glucose from finger skin puncture may be 20-25% higher than venous glucose immediately after a meal.
