Swabs of the vesicle base or lesions are the ideal specimen for testing HSV or VZV active infection. Please consult the ProvLab Guide to Services for appropriate collection instructions for this specimen type and others.

CLS staff collects only blood for this test.

Specimen Requirements

1 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA tube.

Do not collect in same tube with any other test.

Specimen Handling

Do not open tubes; do not centrifuge.

Transport on ice or cold packs. Ensure tube is not in direct contact with ice pack so specimen does not freeze.
