Specimen Requirements

2 x 2.7 mL blue top sodium citrate plastic tubes

Specimens can be collected any day of the week. If collected on testing days (Monday & Thursday) specimens must arrive at DSC Special Coagulation by 10:00.

Specimen Handling

Send specimens to DSC Special Coagulation.

RRL:
If after courier hours, spin in refrigerated centrifuge, aliquot plasma into 2 plastic tubes, freeze at - 70 degrees C.

DSC Accession:
After 16:30, spin in refrigerated centrifuge, aliquot plasma into 2 plastic tubes, freeze at - 70 degrees C in Special Coagulation freezer.

Additional Information Order in SCM or submit an Acute Care Requisition and a completed Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia Antibody (HITABS) History Form with specimens.

Platelet Serotonin Release Assay may be performed as follow-up testing.
