Specimen Requirements

2 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA tubes.

Do not collect in same tube with any other test.

Specimen Handling

Do not open tubes, do not centrifuge.

Send as TDG on ice pack and DO NOT freeze.  Must reach Provincial Lab within 24 hours of collection.

Additional Information Submit completed "HBV DNA PCR (quantitative), HCV RNA PCR (quantitative/qualitative), & HCV Genotyping" Requisition (available at Provincial Laboratory).

This assay is a measure of the viral replication and is indicated for the monitoring of patients who are on treatment or are being evaluated for treatment.  Molecular investigations must be DEDICATED specimens to avoid contamination or degradation of the viral nucleic acid.
