Specimen Requirements

Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).


1 x 3 mL light green (mint) top PST tube. Gold top SST tube also acceptable.

1.0 mL heparinized plasma or serum

Cochrane CANNOT collect SST; PST collections only. 

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water or crushed ice) immediately after collection.

Preferably patient should be fasting.  Note if not fasting.

Specimen Handling PSC, RRL and Extra-regional sites:
Place PST or SST sample on ice until centrifuged.
Centrifuge, pour off and mark aliquot tube "PST" or "SST".
It is not necessary to transport on ice to the DSC.

DSC:
Store plasma or serum in refrigerator.
