2 x 4 mL red top tubes, NOT SST

3.0 mL serum

CLS staff: collect specimen and transport to DSC Accession, who will forward specimen to Referrals.

Specimen Handling PSC & RRL:
Centrifuge and transport serum to DSC.

Extra-regional:
Centrifuge and freeze serum prior to transport to DSC.

DSC:
Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
 
 

Additional Information  Drugs detected by this procedure are:
- The first-generation sulfonylureas - acetohexamide, chlorpropamide, tolazamide, and tolbutamide
- The second-generation sulfonylureas - glimepiride, glupizide, and glyburide
- The meglitinide-repaglinide
