Specimen Requirements

Collections restricted to:
- Acute care & outpatients: ACH, FMC, PLC, RGH, SHC & CRL
- Community patients: SMCHC PSC only
- Urgent care patients only (not PSC Community patients): ACHC, CCHC, SCHC, SMCHC 
Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).

1 x 2 mL gray top tube (Na fluoride/potassium oxalate)

0.2 mL plasma

Minimum Whole Blood Volumes for Microcollections

DO NOT use tourniquet for collection.

Specimen Handling

Deliver to lab immediately on ice.
Centrifuge without delay at 4ºC + 2ºC, and aliquot. Once aliquotted, plasma is stable.

HCTL only:
Deliver to lab immediately on ice. Centrifuge without delay in Hettich coagulation centrifuge and aliquot. Once aliquotted, plasma is stable.

CRL only:
Deliver to lab, centrifuge and perform testing immediately.

Microcollections:
Deliver to lab immediately on ice.  Centrifuge without delay in microcentrifuge at room temperature, do not aliquot, place on ice immediately.  Transport specimen on ice to testing lab as soon as possible.

Extra-regional:
Deliver to lab immediately on ice. Centrifuge without delay at delay at 4ºC + 2ºC and aliquot, Once aliquotted, plasma is stable. If plasma aliquot cannot be received by FMC Chemistry within 8 hours, store and send the plasma at 2-8ºC.
