Specimen Requirements

Collections restricted to:
- Acute care & outpatients: ACH, FMC, PLC, RGH
- Community patients: SMCHC PSC only
- Urgent care patients only (not PSC Community patients): ACHC, CCHC, SCHC, SMCHC 
Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS).

1 x 2 mL gray top tube (Na fluoride/potassium oxalate)

0.2 mL plasma

Minimum Whole Blood Volumes for Micro-Collections using Microtainers

DO NOT use tourniquet for collection.

 

Specimen Handling

Specimen must be centrifuged within 15 minutes of collection.

Acute Care Non-lab Collections:
Transport on ice to lab.

PSC:
Centrifuge specimen and send plasma aliquot directly to FMC by contacting the courier desk.  Samples MUST NOT be held at DSC overnight.

Extra-regional:
If specimen cannot be received by FMC Chemistry within 8 hours of collection, store and send the specimen at 2-8°C.
