Specimen Requirements

ACH:
Collection performed at ACH Outpatient Lab Monday to Friday. Use Newborn metabolic screening card and fill in all circles on card, OR 1 x 4 mL dark green top sodium heparin tube. Also acceptable: 1 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA.

Non ACH collection:
1 x 4 mL dark green top sodium heparin tube. Also acceptable: 1 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA.

Specimen Handling

ACH:
Place the blood spot card on a clean non-absorbent surface, away from sunlight and heat, and allow to completely dry at room temperature. Notify ACH Biochemical Genetics staff that a specimen is available.

Non ACH collection:
DO NOT centrifuge. Transport on ice to DSC. Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

DSC Accession:
Refrigerate whole blood specimens.

DSC Referrals:
Transport whole blood specimens on ice to ACH.

Additional Information

Send a copy of the requisition with the specimen.

ACH Biochemical Genetics Lab will forward specimens to London Health.
