Additional Information

Submit completed Edmonton Zone Chemistry Special Requisition available at http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/assets/wf/lab/wf-lab-chemistry-specialty.pdf

For the investigation of glycoprotein catabolism disorders.
An initial thin layer chromatography screen will be conducted at the Newborn Metabolic Screening and Biochemical Genetics Laboratory in Edmonton, and all abnormal screens will be reflexively sent to the Mayo Clinic for MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis. Reporting of an abnormal oligosaccharide electrophoretic pattern consistent with a known disorder by the referral lab will be part of the test report interpretation, requiring follow-up lysosomal enzyme or molecular-based confirmatory testing. Information regarding available lysosomal enzyme testing can be found in the CLS Guide to Services under Lysosomal Enzyme Testing or by contacting the ACH Biochemical Genetics Lab (403-955-7379). Additional information including molecular confirmatory testing can be obtained by contacting the Genetic Lab Services' Genetic Resource Centre (403-955-3097).
