Random: UOXR
Specimen Requirements

24 hour:
Submit 50 mL aliquot of 24 hour urine collection.
Collect in container with 25 mL 6N Hydrochloric acid (HCl).
Store in a cool, dark place during collection. Refrigeration is acceptable.

Random:
Submit random urine collection.
Do not acidify. (Acidification will be done at the DSC.)
Refrigerate if there will be a delay in sending specimen to the DSC.


PSC:
Direct patient to obtain container with 25 mL of 6N HCl from Beddington or Riverbend PSC or RRL Outpatient labs. HCl is not available at any other PSC.
Specimen may be dropped off at any PSC after collection is complete.

Specimen Handling

Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

Extra-regional:
Transport on ice to DSC. Send specimen in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.

DSC:
24 hour (UOXD): Freeze specimens upon receipt; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
Random (UOXR): Refrigerate specimens.

DSC Referrals:
Random oxalates: take to Immunochemistry for acidification, and freeze.

Additional Information Patient should not take Vitamin C supplements during collection. Spinach, rhubarb, chocolate or coca cola should be avoided for 24 hours prior to and during collection if not wanting to assess dietary intake.
