Specimen Requirements

1 x 6 mL lavender top EDTA tube AND 1 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tube. 

Centrifuging is not necessary (Provincial Lab will centrifuge the SST upon receipt).

 

Specimen Handling Put SST tube, EDTA tube and requisition together in a bag. 

PSC, rural and extra-regional: 
Send bag with specimens and requisition to the DSC.

RRL:
Send bag with specimens and requisition directly to Provincial Lab (Provincial Lab will forward the CBS specimen and requisition to CBS).

 
Additional Information CBS/Provincial Lab requisition ("Prenatal Testing - Initial Screen for Pregnant Woman" HS 001-133) must be completed indicating maternal information.

Includes the CBS tests: ABO/Rh and RBC Antibody Screen; and the Provincial Laboratory tests: Syphilis Serology, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, Varicella (Chicken Pox) Immunity (IgG), Rubella Immunity (IgG) and HIV Serology,
