CLS and CRL staff, two labels will print: ".PROTPOR" and "HH"
Specimen Requirements

2 x 4 mL lavender top EDTA tubes.

Protect one of the tubes from light by wrapping entire tube in foil (CLS and CRL staff use the .PROTPOR label for this tube).

Specimen Handling

DO NOT centrifuge. DO NOT freeze. Send whole blood

.PROTPOR tube:
ensure tube is wrapped in foil to protect from light. Send specimens in a separate bag with a photocopy of the requisition.
HH tube: send to appropriate Hematology lab (CLS and CRL staff: refer to routing information on accession label)

DSC Accession:
.PROTPOR tube: keep refrigerated and protected from light; store in DSC walk-in fridge
HH tube: deliver to DSC Hematology for hemoglobin determination (specimens collected at RRL locations will have already been forwarded to that site's Hematology lab)

Referrals:
Record hematocrit result on HICL requisition.
